Bus Stop Catastrophe

The death of a child is horrible. However, the death of a child at the hands of a careless adult, no matter the situation, is deeply saddening.

The recent reports of children being struck down at bus stops while boarding a school bus is not only horrifying but horrendous.

Already, states like Indiana, Florida & Mississippi have had this happen to them just recently.

It seems to be happening more often than not nowadays.

Enough is Enough Already

Accidents happen, even terrible ones. It's what we do next is what's most important.

Easy to say when you're not the one who lost three children. When you're not the one who sent their children off to school, not knowing that this would be the last time you'll ever see them again...yeah, it's easy to say then.

I can't imagine what those families are going through. It's devastating to me to think of such of thing. Like all of America, my heart goes out to them.

Something Should Be Done

Obviously, this goes without saying. Unfortunately, this must be addressed in a more serious manner. It's a shame that we now know that we need to pay particular attention to this but now only after a horrible and preventable tragedy such as this has struck. A terrible shame.

School Bus Stops should no longer be located at corners. If applicable, preferably in the middle of a residential blocks in particular neighborhoods.

In more rural areas, on a two-way street or highway, a School Bus should be able to park at an angel blocking traffic coming from the other direction.

If applicable, School Bus Stops should be at least 25' (twenty-five feet) away from traffic.
